Does the Mercedes-Benz GLC qualify for the car loan interest deduction?
The 2025–2028 deduction turns on where a vehicle is finally assembled — not the badge. Here's where the 2025–2026 Mercedes-Benz GLC is built and what it means for your loan interest.

FAIL — assembled outside the USA
The Mercedes-Benz GLC does not qualify on the assembly test. Assembly is one of four gates — you also need a new vehicle, personal use, a 2025–2028 loan, and income under the phase-out.
The short answer
Despite Mercedes' big Alabama footprint, the GLC is not part of it yet. Current GLC models sold in the US are assembled in Bremen, Germany, and Mercedes has said US GLC production won't start in Alabama until late 2027. For 2025–2026 the GLC fails the OBBBA final-assembly test.
Where the Mercedes-Benz GLC is assembled
The Mercedes-Benz GLC is imported for the US market — its final assembly point is outside the United States, so it fails the assembly test regardless of the brand.
Confirm the other three tests
A US-assembly result is only the first gate. Each remaining condition has its own guide:
New & personal-use — used cars and leases don't qualify→ Loan dated 2025–2028 — refinancing keeps eligibility→ Income under the phase-out — run the MAGI calculator→
Frequently asked questions
Is the Mercedes-Benz GLC built in Alabama?
Not yet. Mercedes has announced GLC assembly at its Alabama plant starting in late 2027. Every 2025–2026 GLC sold here is imported from Bremen, Germany.
Which Mercedes SUVs qualify right now?
The Alabama-built GLE, GLE Coupe, GLS, Maybach GLS, EQE SUV and EQS SUV are US-assembled and clear the assembly test.
Does the electric GLC qualify?
No. The all-electric GLC is also produced in Bremen, Germany, so it fails the US final-assembly test the same as the gas version.
